March Is National Nutrition Month…Can We Focus On Real Nutrition Please?

While National Nutrition Month is sponsored or endorsed or created by ConAgra (ahem…Foods You Love… seriously?) and The American Dietetic Association who’s web site is Eat Right.Org (if they are on board with Chef Boyardee, Kid Cuisine, Banquet Frozen Meals,  Snack Pacs & Redi-Whip as eating right well then I think we have a…dare I say…conflict of interest?)

I thought it would be refreshing to give some props to the guys out in the field trying to make the world a better place by sharing their successes and knowledge one person at a time.

Kris Carr  was diagnosed with a rare and incurable stage 4 cancer in 2003. She is a survivor who has turned her challenges into an opportunity to help change the world for the better.

Here is a little snipped from a book endorsement she recently made (a book written by an M.D)

What life threatening, life sapping, energy robbing condition affects one in every two Americans (that is, every other person) including 80 percent of those overweight and up to 40 percent of normal weight people?  What condition is responsible for more deaths from heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, and dementia than anything else?  What condition also causes acne, infertility, sexual dysfunction, and depression?

What condition accounts for more then 70 percent of our $2.4 trillion annual health care bill and will account for most of the $47 trillion we will spend globally over the next 20 years to deal with chronic disease?  What is responsible for nearly twice as many deaths every year as infectious disease, even in the developing world? And what condition is not even diagnosed in over 90 percent of those who suffer from it?

What condition are doctors not trained or reimbursed to diagnose, treat or prevent, yet makes up the majority of health care visits and costs? And what condition is nearly 100 percent preventable, treatable, and reversible?

Diabesity.

It is the single biggest health challenge facing us individually, as a nation, and as a global community.

The solution is not coming from our healthcare system or doctors, not from our government, or from most corporations.  There are too many people vested in maintaining the status quo or worse: profiting from making us fat and sick.  We need a solution.

The solution is diet, more correctly called proper nutrition.

How about a little ditty from the land down under…the story of Joe Cross the creator or Fat Sick & Nearly Dead

Let me tell you my story: around 4 years ago, I was 45kg overweight. I was taking medication night and day. I had high blood pressure and high cholesterol. My blood test results weren’t great… some things were in the normal range, but most were either too high or too low. Basically, I was a mess.

When I turned 40, I looked in the mirror and said: “Enough is enough”. I decided to take matters into my own hands. There was no magic pill to cure me, indeed the pills I was on clearly weren’t cutting the mustard, though maybe they were keeping me alive. So, I got to wondering about radically changing my diet. I’d done juice fasts (what I now call ‘Reboots’) before, with success. So I wondered what would happen if I only drank fruit and veggie juices for 60 days? What would that do to my health? It was literally an experiment I planned myself, based on this question: If I only consumed plant food: vegetables, fruit, nuts, beans, legumes and seeds, would I be able to get off my medication?

I did my first fully-fledged 60-day Reboot in late 2007 and was completely off my medication in March 2008. I’ve been off medication ever since and remain trim, taut, and terrific – if I don’t say so myself! So, when we wrapped ‘Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead’, the crew, the medical team that was monitoring me, and I all knew was we had something very special and inspirational to tell the world. I decided to create a community that would enable everyone to experience this life-changing approach to looking after ourselves.

Or the advice of those that believe that buying local and eating real food is important to not only your health but the health of our planet.

The best organic food is what's grown closest to you. Use our website to find farmers' markets, family farms, and other sources of sustainably grown food in your area, where you can buy produce, grass-fed meats, and many other goodies.

So it may be a good idea to do this…clean up your act a little.

“Food is the big ticket to good health. If you eat garbage, your body will show it. If you eat whole, healthy and fresh foods, your body, skin and soul will glow with health that gives you endless energy.”

So while I appreciate the focus on Nutrition in March, I just thought you would appreciate a bit of a different perspective.

Real Nutrition is great and there is no substitute for fresh, homegrown health. But...in this world of pollution healthy food is just not enough. Compare healthy food to a dixie cup of water to put out a house on fire. Dr. McCord discovered a synergistic blend of medicinal herbs that equates to having a fire hose in every room of a house on fire. A dixie cup is better than nothing I guess, but I choose the fire hose in every room.

Okay everyone,  Has anyone heard of www.swap.com.  You can place any items sitting around your house on the site for trade.  My best friend Rob just started a wellness swap community and needs your support.  It is hard getting a site up and running.  We need content.  Basically wellnessswap is a place for communities, swapping health items, recipe exchanges etc.  Our goal is to get it to 50 people as fast as possible.  All you have to do is sign up and post a few things around your house for trade or sale.  The site is great it is like craigslist, swapping, and facebook all together but for health and wellness only!!  Please check it out and leave your thoughts.  If you could forward this or suggest the site to just 1 other person I would much appreciate it.  If we build this site up together it could benefit all of us in the wellness industry.

Oh don't even get me going Jason. I could preach from my soapbox for hours about the massive corruption in our government, medical industry, large corporations and the billions that are spent brainwashing the populous.

I have always told my children "If the masses are doing it...go the other way. Never follow the crowd or automatically do what society acknowledges as correct. Think for yourself."

Thankfully we have the platform with which to share, discuss and help others wake to the truth.
